Election Day Meditation

This election cycle has been a bit contentious. We’ll all find one serious exhale after Tuesday. In the meantime, my fellow teachers at NYHRC are offering Election Day Meditation all day long at various locations. So go vote and then offer yourself an opportunity to calm the f*ck down. Check the schedule. Sit. Inhale. Exhale.

The political discourse these days has me feeling a little glum. While I don’t believe the noise created by some of the candidates are the views of the vast majority of the population of our great country, it nonetheless has an impact. Sometimes the best way to help ourselves is to help others. I’m pretty fortunate to know the work I do makes a difference in people’s lives. Cynicism Recidivism (or zero f*cks to give)

lavendarOur practice always shows us where we’re stuck.

If we pay attention, we’re always shown where we’re being a little too rigid or perhaps too slack. Of late, I’ve been suffering from the NYC affliction: cynicism and hardness. And while I know that those afflictions can be present and I don’t need to BE cynical and hard…they have the potential  to creep in. It could possibly have been brought on by my reading too many articles about our current election process or maybe seeing Christmas decorations before Halloween. Who knows. But no matter the cause, I know I’m using it to protect my broken heart from being broken more. Continue reading
