Help Yourself!

kirtanThe purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

The political discourse these days has me feeling a little glum. While I don’t believe the noise created by some of the candidates are the views of the vast majority of the population of our great country, it nonetheless has an impact. Sometimes the best way to help ourselves is to help others. I’m pretty fortunate to know the work I do makes a difference in people’s lives. MindBodyGreen offered up a few ways to bring some happiness into others lives. The post is a bit old, but the suggestions on ways to brighten others day are no less relevant. And I love the way the article ends, “If you noticed, all of these ways to help, require you to actually do something. Focusing our attention on helping other people gives our own lives room to heal.” So as things open up for you this Spring, take some action! Help yourself by helping others.

With that, on Saturday, April 9th from 7-9 pm, members of the beautiful NY Loves Yoga community are bringing their voices to help raise funds for PS124. P.S.124 is a small, Title 1 elementary school serving a diverse population, including many low-income families across several neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Following school budget cuts, the school lost its Physical Education (PE) teacher and currently does not have a PE program. The PTA has been fundraising to bring a youth sports program (Kids in the Game) into the school to provide this activity to as many children within the school as possible throughout the year.

So click through here to PayPal, or if you’re a NY Loves Yoga client click through to MindBody, to secure your spot to this event. The evening will be drenched in beautiful music, for sure. Bring your favorite beverage and a nosh to share.

Loads of love to you!

Dennis
